Scotland have mauled Afghanistan by 150 runs in the fourth match of the Dubai Triangular Series. Going into the match with two out of two losses in their previous matches, Scotland were short of morale but after this victory, will be oozing with it.

Things didn’t look too bright for Scotland early in Afghanistan’s innings as they marched their way to 38 for no loss in their first six overs in response to Scotland’s 213. But things changed extremely fast from there. Josh Davey triggered a collapse and from there on Afghanistan almost bled wickets.

Openers Usman Ghani and Javed Ahmadi were the only batsmen to go past 20 runs. The others fell quicker than a pack of cards. The innings witnessed five ducks! Davey picked wicket after wicket and all of a sudden Scotland were on top. The Afghanistanis were left rattled.

Ian Wardlaw chipped in with four wickets. Davey was undoubtedly the star of the match. First he made a brilliant half-century to take Scotland to a defendable 213 partnering Richie Berrington in a 99-run partnership. Scotland were reeling at 108 for six when the two joined hands. Berrington, in the process got to 62 runs, thus ending top-scorer for Scotland.

Afghanistan have been thoroughly humiliated, having been bowled out for their lowest total in One-Day Internationals. Scotland will be elated as Afghanistan is a team that has posed threats to even full members and have even beaten Bangladesh once. The match will be a major boost to the Scottish morale as they lost both their previous matches in the series.

Brief Scores:
