Jamshedpur: Sept 4, 2012

A camp on batting and bowling skills for 25 probables from Jharkhand who were selected in the Ranji team is currently underway at the Keenan stadium on Tuesday.

This is the second camp on batting and bowling skills which would be held till September 8 with the third is likely to begin before the Ranji Season begins in November, Director (Academy) of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), Tarak Sinha, told PTI.

The first, a conditioning camp, was held last month.

Sinha said the players will be given a target and asked to achieve it in the third phase of the camp. There would be some friendly matches among the players as well as against the Under-25 team.

Sinha said the focus will be on man-management to extract the best from the players in the longer version of the game.

“It is my observation that the Jharkhand team is placed better than Rajasthan talent-wise, but it lacks merit to convert the talent into results,” Sinha, who guided Rajasthan to emerge Ranji Trophy champion after a gap of 77 years in 2009-10, said.

The Jharkhand team has talents in bowling and batting and have been performing well individually, but the players failed to perform as a team.

Sinha said that Jharkhand’s performance in limited-over tournaments was good, but it required to improve its performance in the longer version of the game.

“I have strictly asked the players to forget about the shorter versions of the game and focus solely on the four-day game,” Sinha, a former Delhi Coach, said.(PTI)
