New Zealand team has suffered a new injury setback, as star pacer Lockie Ferguson hurt his hamstring during the ILT20 2025 Qualifier 1 clash. Ferguson had to leave the field before he could complete his four overs.
When speaking at the post-match presentation, Ferguson stated that there is nothing to be worried about as it’s just a small issue. He also said that it was unfortunate that he could not bowl the last ball.
“(it”s) just a little hamstring issue, unfortunate. Tough night; wish I could’ve bowled the last ball,” Ferguson said in the post-match presentation.
The very next day, Lockie went for scans, which revealed that the injury was more than just a minor issue. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is now considering every possible outcome as he waits for fore details in the scale of injury.
“Lockie had a scan yesterday [Thursday] in the UAE,” Stead said.
“We’ve got the images here and [we are] waiting for our radiologist to give us a report on the extent of it. Small hamstring injury, by the look of it, so we’re just waiting on a timeline of advice around that before we make a decision on whether Lockie travels here [Pakistan] or whether we do have to replace him for the Champions Trophy,” he added.
