With the possibility of India hosting a Day-Night Test getting high each day and the idea of Pink-ball cricket coming to the limelight, ball-makers Sanspareils Greenlands (SG) have already got down to business of producing and making the pink-ball. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur had announced that the Duleep Trophy 2016-17 Season would be played under lights and with the pink-ball. The BCCI had also said that top players will also feature in the Duleep Trophy, as their experience and feedback would help BCCI understand how to go about things if Day-Night Tests are to be scheduled in future. Paras Anand, SG’s marketing director when asked about the manufacturing of the pink-ball said – “We have developed the pink ball after the hype around it after Adelaide. The BCCI hasn’t sounded us out. This is something that we are doing on our own. But I think an indication is there (from the board). Once the experiment goes well — hopefully in the next month or two — we will be able to give that ball to the board to try it out, as quoted by IndianExpress.com. When asked about how making a pink ball is different than manufacturing other balls, Anand said – “There is no rocket science behind the making of pink ball. It’s not that your are trying to make a completely different product or there is new technology involved or there is a patent. It’s the same process — marginally different from the red ball, yes, but the same as the white ball.”
Meanwhile, talks of India playing a Day-Night match against New Zealand later in the year were doing the rounds, although BCCI is currently analyzing factors such as dew, weather and pitch conditions to decide upon the venue. Kolkata although, looks like the most likely.
