Shaiman Anwar became the first United Arab Emirates (UAE) player to score World Cup century on Wednesday in the game against Ireland. Anwar, a 35-year-old of Pakistani origin cricketer, reached his ton off 79 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six in the Pool B match at the Gabba. His hundred ensured, UAE to post a competitive 278 for nine against the Irish boys in the 16th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at Brisbane. Anwar came to the wicket when UAE were struggling at 78 for four in the 21st over. At one point of time UAE were down and out at 132 for six. From there Anwar along with Amjad Javed rescued the inning with a 106-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Much like in the previous game against Zimbabwe, UAE managed to bring out a few big hits toward the end to make up for a lacklustre start. It was Shaiman’s innings of 67 in the last match that had helped take UAE to 285. He did even better this time around, becoming the first UAE batsman to score a World Cup ton, and ensured that UAE ended with another good score. But will they be able to defend it this time around?
