Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan on Sunday apologised for inappropriate behaviour, and has appealed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to reduce his ban of six months.
Shakib was banned from international cricket for six months by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) earlier, following his threat to quit playing for Bangladesh due to the board refusing to provide him with an NOC to play in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Shakib, who is one of Bangladesh’s leading cricketers, wanted to play in the cash-rich Caribbean Premier League, but was not given an NOC by the BCB, thus leading to him threaten to quit playing for his national side.
This prompted the board to take the harsh call of banning him from the international game for six months, while also banning him from playing in any foreign Twenty20 (T20) league till the end of 2015. Shakib’s ban has been attributed to what the BCB president referred to as a “severe attitude problem.”
According to Sky Sports, Shakib went to meet BCB chief Nazmul Hassan and is now waiting for the board’s mercy.
“I admitted that my behaviour was not mature. I apologise for this. In future it will not happen again. I have always been with cricket and will remain with cricket. I want to play cricket for Bangladesh,” Shakib said.
