Shakib Al Hasan overtakes Mashrafe Mortaza to become second-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh during ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 match against New Zealand

Shakib Al Hasan overtook Mashrafe Mortaza to become the second-highest wicket-taker of all time for Bangladesh in One-Day Internationals (ODI). The all-rounder achieved the feat when he took his fourth wicket to dismiss Luke Ronchi during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A match between Bangladesh and New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Friday. Shakib, who assumed the role of the captain in the absence of Mortaza in Bangladesh’s final league encounter of the ongoing tournament, now has 189 wickets from 146 matches, at an average and economy of 28.15 and 4.29 respectively. Shakib’s four-wicket haul unfortunately went in vain as New Zealand won a nail-biting contest by three wickets, chasing the 289-run target down with seven balls to spare. Martin Guptill scored 105 runs from 100 balls, helping the Black Caps recover from the early wickets of Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson, sharing a vital 131-run partnership with Ross Taylor. Bangladesh earlier finished on a respectable score of 288 for seven, with Mahmudullah scoring his second consecutive ODI century, becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score back-to-back World Cup hundreds.
