With the defeat of England at the hands of Pakistan in the first semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Australian legend Shane Warne completed his bet of wearing the England jersey after losing the challenge to Sourav Ganguly. Warne wore the England jersey not because they got eliminated, but he did as Australia lost to the host team by a healthy margin of 40 runs in the group stage. With that defeat, Australia’s run in this Champions Trophy ended without claiming any victory. Moreover, Australia haven’t won any match in Champions Trophy since 2009 edition.
Warne had to wear the jersey because he lost the bet to his commentary partner Ganguly. Being the rival of England, Warne felt hurt after putting jersey on, which he wrote after posting the picture from his official Instagram account. Warne wrote, “I’m in a world of hurt wearing this shirt right now, but a bets a bet so on with the England shirt ! #CT17”

Not only Warne had to wear the jersey, but he also had to buy Ganguly a dinner. Defending 278, Australia began well with the ball by taking 3 wickets under 35 runs but then England skipper Eoin Morgan along with Ben Stokes began counter attack and played with no half measures. Before the rain interrupted, England had scored 240 for the loss of 4 wickets from 40.2 overs and as per DLS method, they were declared winners by 40 runs.
