Shane Warne has criticised the ICC over its reluctance to pass out a standardized ruling in regards with the Decision Review System (DRS). For the DRS to be employed, the requirement is that both participating teams agree over its use. Currently all teams have adopted the system with the exception of India. As a result series involving India don’t feature the DRS.

Warne believes the DRS can significantly impact player stats and thus not having a standardized rule in that regard causes an uneven playing field. “It doesn’t matter if you agree with DRS or not, what does matter is that everyone should have to play by the same rules,” Warne said on Channel 9. “Everyone should be playing with it or no one should be playing with it – simple as that” he added.

India’s reservation is that technology is not foolproof and they have expressed concern about DRS diminishing authority of the umpire. ICC chief Dave Richardson said “Our tactic is to make DRS as good as it possibly can and then hopefully down the line people will be persuaded it is a system that can be used.” He added “Who knows? Maybe in five to 10 years the technology has advanced to such an extent we can leave it to umpires to initiate the review process.”
