Shaun Marsh‘s absence from the upcoming Champions League T20 will amount to a loss of USD 150,000 for Australian T20 outfit Perth Scorchers. According to the CPL rules listed on its website, if a player is contracted to one or more competing teams, the ‘away’ team must pay the ‘home’ team (the team from the country he is eligible to represent in international cricket) USD150,000 as a release fee. Marsh was expected to appear for the Punjab side in the event.

The Western Australian southpaw, who plays for the Scorchers as well as Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, is currently out of action due to a reconstruction surgery of his left elbow to repair the torn tendons that he had sustained during the recently concluded seventh season of the IPL.

WACA General Manager High Performance Ben Oliver however fixed his sight on Marsh’s fitness instead of the money. “CLT20 player transfer fees are not a primary consideration for us and are certainly not something that is planned for; we are focussed on preparing for the tournament and helping our players develop on and off the field. “We are obviously very disappointed for Shaun and, in conjunction with Cricket Australia, are doing everything we can to get him back on the field as soon as possible,” Oliver was quoted as saying to cricket.com.au.

Marsh’s Scorchers team mate Nathan Coulter-Nile, who plays for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, is also in doubt for the tournament as he is recovering from an injury he sustained in the latest edition of the Indian T20 extravaganza.
