India started things off very well. Bangladesh played right into their hands by playing only Mohammad Shahid as their only fast bowler. The spinners include Shakib-Al-Hasan, Taijul Islam and off-spinner Shuvgata Hom. Jubair Hossain too bowled a few of his leg spinners but none of them were successful in dislodging the openers. Dhawan got to his half-century quicker than a run-a-ball, but right at the end of the first session it started pouring heavily. It looked unlikely that the play will resume, but after an entire session was washed out, play finally resumed with India at 107 without loss. The opening pair broke two records. Their partnership is the highest partnership by an Indian opening pair against Bangladesh. After that, they became their partnership became the second highest opening stand for India in overseas conditions. Eventually, the day was brought to an abrupt end the batsmen were offered lights, which they accepted gleefully. India will look to resume play on Day Two and pile on a huge score. Earlier, India captain Virat Kohli had won the toss and elected to bat first. India welcome off-spinner Harbhajan Singh back into their playing XI. For Bangladesh, wicket keeper Litton Das made his debut as their regular keeper and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is going into this match with a finger injury, as a result of which he will play solely as a batsman.
