Cricket West Indies have appointed Shivnarine Chanderpaul as Cricket Ambassador for the ICC Women’s World T20, to be hosted by West Indies later this year, according to a news on News Americas Now. West Indies Women are the defending champions of the tournament, having lifted the title in the 2016 edition in India. Chanderpaul has joined the Windies Ambassador Program. He (and other CWI-appointed ambassadors) will make several appearances between September and November.

The ICC Women’s World T20 will be played at three venues — Guyana National Stadium, Providence, in Chanderpaul’s home country, Guyana; Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, St Lucia; and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. North Sound will host both semi-finals (on November 22) and the final (on November 24). Just like the semi-finals, the tournament will feature several double-headers.

A delighted Chanderpaul told the media: “This tournament is for the fans of the West Indies and I want to urge everyone to come out. It will be a great few weeks of brilliant performances by some of the best women players to ever play the game. I’m delighted I will be part of it.”

Chanderpaul had played 164 Tests for West Indies and had gone past fifty 96 times — both records for the team. His 11,867 runs and 30 hundreds are only behind Brian Lara’s 11,912 and 34 respectively. Still an active cricketer, he has played for Lancashire this season.
