After denying a week ago about his marriage to a 17-year old girl Rubab, Shoaib Akhtar has finally married and it had its own little controversy. Previously it was reported that girl is 17 years of age. However, the latest news suggests that the girl is 20 years old. Social media users especially from India and Pakistan have been reacting to it with many terming it as Child Marriage.
Many are commenting considering that the age of consent is 17. However, in Pakistan, the age of consent for females is 16 years. Below is an excerpt clarifying the same:
Under Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, the legal age for marriage is eighteen (18) and sixteen
(16) years for male and female persons respectively.
Below are some reactions on the age row over Shoaib Akhtar’s wife.
