The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strict rules when it is about Indian cricketers participating in oversea leagues. In order to take part in foreign leagues, an India player has to retire from International cricket, IPL and domestic cricket. On top of that, a player cannot return to Indian cricket once they have taken part in overseas T20 league.

After the emergence of Legends league and other T20 competitions, lot of Indian players have lately retired from Indian cricket. Dinesh Karthik is one such player who retired from Indian cricket after IPL 2024. Now, he shared his take on BCCI’s decision against Indian cricketers participating in overseas league till they are active in Indian cricket.

I am a big believer that the IPL should be the crown jewel for the BCCI. It is at the moment. The IPL is the crown jewel of world cricket. For that to maintain their status quo as No. 1, I believe Indian cricketers shouldn’t be allowed to play in overseas leagues unless they are retired,” he said.

The players can take their call, because if they feel they are done with IPL, they can move on to other leagues. I completely stand along with the BCCI on that front,” he added.

Dinesh Karthik made his debut for India in 2004, but was never a regular member of the national team. He had a significant amount of comebacks from 2004 to 2022, with his final appearance coming for the team in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
