Gujarat Titans’ (GT) opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan formed a brilliant opening partnership of 114 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday at the Eden Gardens. This was their sixth 100-plus run partnership and it further solidified their status as one of the best opening duos in IPL history.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers sit at the top with ten 100-plus run stands in IPL while Kohli and Chris Gayle take the second place with 9 stands. They are followed by Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner, Faf du Plessis and Kohli who are tied on six 100-plus run stands each.
The brilliant partnership between Sudharsan and Gill would finally come to an end in the 13th over as the former got dismissed on 52 by Andre Russell.
Sudharsan’s knock included 6 boundaries and a maximum, massively helping GT in getting a good start against KKR. Skipper Gill went on to play a fine knock of 90 runs before getting dismissed by Vaibhav Arora. The batter’s brilliant innings included 10 boundaries and 3 maximums.
The opening partnership was crucial to GT’s massive total of 198/3 in 20 overs. In reply, the KKR batters never really got going and only managed to put up a total of 159/8 in their 20 overs.
