India skipper Shubman Gill led by example on Day 1 of the first Test against England in Leeds, scoring an unbeaten century. After England chose to bowl at Headingley, Gill anchored India’s innings with a commanding 127*, guiding the visitors to 359/3 at Stumps.

The 25-year-old not only reached the milestone of 2000 Test runs but also became only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to achieve the feat on captaincy debut. Gill is now the 23rd player to score a century in his first innings as captain and the fourth youngest to do so, following Herbie Taylor, Alastair Cook, and Steven Smith.

Despite his brilliant performance with the bat, Shubman Gill might find himself in trouble with the ICC for a potential dress code violation. On Day 1, Gill was seen wearing black socks a breach of the ICC’s Player Clothing and Equipment regulations, which state that in Test cricket, socks must be white, cream, or light grey.

The final decision on whether Shubman Gill will face a fine for his dress code violation rests with ICC match referee Richie Richardson. He will review the incident and determine if disciplinary action is warranted.
