With a plethora of Twenty20 domestic league doing the rounds, the sixth edition of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2017 is ready to take off. KPL will start from September 1 with the opening match taking place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This edition will be played across three cities — Mysuru, Hubli and Bengaluru—lasting for 19 days. This year marks the return of Bengaluru Blasters, who will be joining the bandwagon along with the regulars like Bijapur Bulls, Belagavi Panthers, Bellary Tuskers, Hubli Tigers, Mysuru Warriors and Namma Shivamogga. Sadly, for fans they won’t be seeing the Rockstars team that had Kannada actor Sudeep as captain. The final of the KPL 2017 will be played at Hubli, which will also host the semi-finals.
A total of 5 double-header days will be witnessed with the first match starting at 3 pm, while second match will commence at 7 pm. The format for the KPL is different that of the Indian Premier League (IPL), here the first and fourth placed teams will match up against each other in the first-semi finals, while the second and third place will battle it out in the second semi finals. Ahead of their return, Karnataka State Cricket Association’s secretary, Sudhakar Rao, said, “The capital city has always loved its cricket, and congratulations to Kalyani Motors for winning the bid of the franchise. We are sure the fans from Bengaluru are eagerly awaiting to catch the action live.”
Blasters participated in initial two editions of KPL before lack of sponsors saw them opt out from the third.
