Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that Sri Lanka had accepted India’s invitation to play a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series starting on November 1 and continuing till November 15.

Earlier, the standoff between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), and the Dwayne Bravo-led West Indies team over pay disputes came to a head as the players decided to call off their tour to India after the fourth One-Day International. The Wavell Hinds-led WIPA, along with the WICB, and the players had been feuding since before the series started.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said they were “shocked and surprised” at the decision made by the WICB to cancel the series. According to the press release by the BCCI, the WICB had informed them that their players would return immediately. The BCCI assured Indian fans and supporters that the decision to cancel the ongoing series was taken exclusively by WICB, and was neither supported nor condoned by the BCCI.

However, with SLC coming to the aid of the BCCI, it would appear as a blessing in disguise for India as they would get to play a few more bonus ODIs before the ICC World Cup 2015.
