Sophie Devine smashed eight sixes and five fours in her 22-ball 70 against India Women in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) at Bangalore on Saturday, as New Zealand Women defeated the hosts by eight wickets.
The White Ferns won toss and elected to bowl first. Riding on Kate Broadmore and Morna Nielsen’s three-wicket haul, the visitors restricted India Women to 125. New Zealand came out to bat and lost two quick wicket of Rachel Priest. Sophie, the T20I skipper, then smashed the second most sixes in a T20I innings and five fours, to guide New Zealand Women to a comfortable position. She was dismissed by Rajeshwari Gaekwad and Amy Satterthwaite and Leigh Kasperek finished the job for the visitors, as they won by eight wickets.

Sophie registered the record for the second most sixes hit in a T20I innings by a women cricketer. Deandra Dottin hit the most sixes against South Africa Women in May 2010, during the ICC Women’s World T20 2010. She was unbeaten on 112 from 45 balls.
