Former India captain Sourav Ganguly met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee in Kolkata to discuss the possibility of him taking over as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) following the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya. Ganguly is currently the secretary of the CAB. Ganguly is one of the most popular figures to take over as President but is lack of administration experience could go against him. According to sports.ndtv.com, “During Dalmiya’s funeral on Monday, Didi had asked Sourav to take Dalmiya’s legacy forward,” said a former CAB official who was present during the ceremony. Ganguly also has the backing of former BCCI president and Dalmiya’s mentor, Biswanath Dutt. READ: Jagmohan Dalmiya’s passing leaves big void in cricket, says Javed Miandad

Ganguly has been a part of the board for just a year now. Two former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chitrak Mitra and Gautam Dasgupta too are eyeing the President’s post. “I have been working with Mr Dalmiya since 1977. I am currently the chairman of the Board of Trustees and in the fairness of things, I will be happy to take over the president’s job,” said Dasgupta.
