Sourav Ganguly resumes captaincy duties; crowned Libra Legends skipper

One of India’s favourite cricketing sons and former skipper Sourav Ganguly is to resume captaincy duties as he gears up for the Masters Champions League (MCL) 2016. The ‘prince of Kolkata’ has been named captain by his team the Libra Legends. Ganguly’s captaincy acumen was widely acclaimed during his time as India skipper and he will attempt to recreate some of that old magic as he takes the field in the league specially designed for former greats. The MCL 2016 will see six teams named after Zodiac signs participate. Ganguly’s team boasts of legends like Jacques Kallis among others. The only other Indian in the team is Ajay Ratra. The Libra team is dominated by Englishmen with names such as Graeme Swann, Ryan Sidebottom, Michael Lumb and Chris Read in the line up. There are also three Australians in the team with names like Brad Hogg, Shaun Tait and Marcus North.
The other players that will fall under Ganguly’s captaincy include Pakistan’s Taufeeq Umar, New Zealand’s Ian Butler, South African Nicky Boje, Sean Ervine from Zimbabwe and Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate. The tournament starts on January 28 and the team in question, Libra Legends, will take on Gemini Arabians in the opening fixture at Dubai.
Ganguly’s captaincy acumen is highlighted in his sterling international record. In the 49 Tests India played under his leadership India won 21 encounters while losing just 15. Furthermore, in ODIs India won 76 of the 147 matches under his leadership while losing 66. Ganguly also has some T20 captaining experience having skippered Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India.
Ganguly’s record in the T20 format was not something worth boasting but he’ll look to make amends now.
