Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara among others set aside as marquee players for MCL 2016

The 12 marquee players will be distributed evenly among the six MCL teams.

The inaugural edition of the Masters Champions League (MCL) is set to witness various legends from across the globe grace the field in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Of these, twelve players have been marked out as marquee players. These names include Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara, Michael Vaughan, Graeme Smith, Mahela Jayawardene, Heath Streak, Scott Styris, Graeme Swann, Abdul Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood and Shoaib Akhtar. The marquee players is a good mix of players from different Test playing nations. Six of these marquee players have captained their sides at the international level. The MCL will be contested between six teams with names based on zodiac signs. Each team will be assigned two marquee players each and the announcement for the same will be made shortly. The MCL CEO Zafar Shah sounded upbeat about signing some of the most iconic players of the previous generation. “It is indeed a privilege for us to have these names headlining the very first season of MCL. To especially have six of the most successful captains of their respective countries as part of the marquee players’ list is a big moment for the tournament,” he said.

“The legacy that these players left behind in their respective countries was phenomenal. I am sure they will have a similar long lasting impact in the Emirates. Also the other names in the list are world beaters who have stolen the show with the bat, ball or both. I welcome all of them to the MCL family,” Zafar added.
