Cricket Australia’s ODI GOAT contest is a knockout competition to decide the greatest One-Day International player of all time. The contest on cricket.com.au started with 64 big names from the ODI circuit and after a series of voting the winner will be determined. The format is set up like a knock-out tournament through head-to-head match ups, where every day the winner from the first round will progress to the second one. As per the votes, the count from 64 has now come down to 32 and will keep in reducing into half till a solitary winner is decided. The first day of the eliminator round saw some big Indian names like Sourav Ganguly, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Anil Kumble being purged from the list. Ganguly was squared off with Pakistani batsman Saeed Anwar which the latter won through maximum votes. Anwar played 247 matches in which he scored 8,824 runs at an average of 39.21 with 20 tons. Ganguly on the other hand, featured in 311 games with 11,363 runs at a staggering average of 41.02 runs and 22 centuries in his basket. Indian opener Rohit Sharma went head-to-head with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in this ODI GOAT clash. Tendulkar is one of the greatest contenders in this competition with his enormous tally if runs and records. Tendulkar represent India in 463 ODI’s and amassed 18,426 runs with 49 centuries in his kitty. Rohit on the other hand, possesses immense talent and has played 148 games with 5,008 runs.
Indian spin sensation Anil Kumble locked horns with Australian legend Shane Warne in which the latter emerged victorious. Kumble in 271 ODIs has 337 wickets to his tally whereas Warne has scalped 293 wickets in 194 games.
Further, Indian star batsman Virat Kohli too won the battle against Kevin Pietersen along with Virender Sehwag who crossed swords with Gordon Greenidge. Kapil Dev too made it to the second round as he won it against Daniel Vettori but MS Dhoni lost the battle to Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.
