Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the One-Day International and Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the India series. Imran Tahir returns to the T20I squad in the place of Aaron Phangiso along with Chris Morris returning to both ODI and T20I squad. Marchant de Lange has been included into the T20I squad. Rilee Rossouw has been ruled out of the T20 squad but is likely to return in time for the ODI series. He will be replaced by Khaya Zondo in the T20I squad, thus becoming the 65th player to represent South Africa in the shortest format. South Africa will tour India in September end, with the two month tour kicking off with three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), which will be followed by the five ODIs in October.
ODI Squad: AB de Villiers (c), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw and Dale Steyn.
T20I Squad: Faf du Plessis (c), Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Marchant de Lange, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Eddie Leie, David Miller, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, David Wiese and Khaya Zondo.
The first ODI will be played on October 11 at Green Park, Kanpur and the fifth and final ODI will be played at Brabourne Stadium, in Mumbai on October 25. The remaining three ODIs will be played at — Indore, Rajkot and Chennai. The three T20Is will be played at — Dharamsala, Cuttack and Kolkata. The limited-overs games will be followed by Tests at Mohali (November 5-9), Bangalore (November 14-18), Nagpur (November 25-29) and the concluding match of the tour at Delhi from December 3 to 7). In all, the tour will last for 72 days.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and CSA agreed to call their bilateral series as “The Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela Series”. The tour which kicks off on October 2, happens to be Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. This will also be South Africa’s first T20I match against India in India.
