South Africa extend lead to XXX runs against New Zealand at Lunch on Day Two

South Africa continued their domination against New Zealand as they posted 335 for the loss of six wickets at Lunch on Day Two of the first Test at Cape Town on Thursday.

Trent Boult dismissed centurion Alviro Petersen early in the day, allowing him to add only three runs to his overnight score of 103.

Faf du Plessis fell soon after that adding only 26 runs for the fifth wicket with AB de Villiers who scored his 30th half-century in Test cricket.

On Day One, Alviro Peterson scored an unbeaten 103, adding 107 for the second wicket with Hashim Amla and 104 with Jacques Kallis for the third wicket. Amla and Kallis also struck half-centuries.

During the course of the day Dale Steyn became the third fastest bowler to pick up 300 Test wickets while Kallis became the fourth batsman to surpass 13,000 Test runs.

Earlier, Vernon Philander grabbed his eighth five-wicket haul in Test cricket as New Zealand were bowled out for 45 against South Africa. In doing so, Philander became the 11th bowler in Test cricket to bag a five-wicket haul in the first session of the match.

Morne Morkel picked up three wickets to add to New Zealand’s woes. Dale Steyn became the third fastest bowler to pick up 300 Test wickets when he dismissed Doug Bracewell for two.

New Zealand reached a new low when they were bowled out for 45, 34 runs less than their previous lowest total in against South Africa in Tests. This was New Zealand third lowest total ever in Test cricket. Their lowest came against England at Auckland in 1955 when they were bundled out for 26. 

They managed to survive for only 19.2 overs which is the least the any team has managed to survive in a completed innings in a Test match.

Kane Williamson was the top-scorer for the Kiwis with a 19-ball 13.
