South Africa were 136 for two when bad light stopped play on a weather-disrupted first day of the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve on Friday.

Hashim Amla made 63 and Alviro Petersen was 44 not out.

Only 42 overs were possible after the morning session was lost because of a wet outfield following heavy overnight rain, and poor light ended play an hour early. (AFP)

Brief Scores: South Africa 136 for 2 (Hashim Amla 63, Alviro Petersen 44*, JP Duminy 23*; Doug Bracewell 1 for 30, Mark Gillespie 1 for 37) vs New Zealand
