Former South Africa pacer Meyrick Pringle has spent time training Rajasthan and have enough idea about Indian conditions. With South Africa touring India, Pringle feels ranking won’t matter for the series against India. Pringle said that South Africa will do well only if Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander stay fit. “South Africa will rely on Steyn, Morkel and Philander but the most important thing for them is to stay fit and stay away from injuries, as this is a long tour. I am sure they will be used in short spells in Tests. India is not an easy place to tour. But you need to adapt to all conditions and South Africa would have prepared well,” Pringle was quoted as saying by Times of India. No real surprises in SA Test side
Speaking about off-spinner Simon Harmer, Pringle said, “Harmer has done well in SA’s domestic cricket so it won’t take him long to adjust. Any spinner playing in India loves bowling on the pitches there. Missing the top players in Bangladesh was a major loss. The ODI side still has a long way to go but they have all the talent to take them to the No. 1 spot. It’s just a matter of time.” PHOTOS: India begin preparations for SA series
Pringle said that spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra will be South Africa’s main concern. “They are both outstanding. I have followed them in all the games. They will play a vital role. India will miss Ishant Sharma in the first Test. He has been their spearhead but the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav have done well and are very good fast bowlers. You can’t really ask for more,” said Pringle.
