India A bowlers managed to pulled things back a bit to ensure that South Africans are restricted to a reasonable score of 189 for 3 in 20 Overs, setting India A a target of 190. The way AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis were going at one stage, it looked like the visitors will get a score in excess of 200 with ease. But things started turning in the hosts’ favour after du Plessis retired, paving way for JP Duminy to take over. Quinton de Kock was the first batsman to be dismissed. He was unfortunate to miss out as he was run out for just a couple in the first over. The onslaught began after that, but it was halted after India A picked up a few quick wickets. David Miller and de Villiers were dismissed in quick succession and the burden of scoring some quick runs fell on the shoulders of Duminy and Farhaan Behardien, who could not get things going in the latter stages of the innings. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav deserves much of the credit as he gave away just 26 runs in his four overs and also picked up the crucial wicket of de Villiers. Other bowlers struggled to get any sort of rhythm and Duminy stood tall and completed a well-deserved half-century to help his side to a decent total. South Africans were cruising at 90 for 1 in 10 Overs, but the introduction of Kuldeep turned things around for India A. The hosts will be fancying their chances to go on and win this game. For South Africans, it will be a good test for their bowlers to try their hand at this young and inexperienced India A team.
Earlier, South Africans had won the toss and elected to bat. This warm-up match is being played just days before the start of the T20 International (T20I) series, which starts from October 2. Hashim Amla misses in this match due to personal commitments and Albie Morkel, who was a last minute addition for the injured David Wiese has not received an India visa yet. Both of them will be hopeful of joining the South African squad ahead of the T20I series.
Brief scores:
South Africans 189 for 3 in 20 Overs (Faf du Plessis 42, JP Duminy 68*; Hardik Pandy 1 for 26, Kuldeep Yadav 1 for 16) vs India A.
