Global sports channel ESPN has filed an FIR against a local cable operator in south Indian state Kerala for allegedly broadcasting the signals of ESPN, STAR Sports and STAR Cricket channels illegally.
ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd filed the FIR on Friday against ‘Datha Vision’, a link operator of Asianet, operating in Kumbala in northern district Kasargod.
According to the FIR, the local channel broadcast the signals of those channels illegally violating the copy rights acts and it had led to huge financial loss for ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, the channel sources said.

ESPL, which is the sole and exclusive licensee for distributing ESPN, STAR Sports and STAR Cricket channels in India, had earlier filed an FIR against G Shankaranarayan of Asianet Satellite Communications Ltd and Raghuram of Datha Vision,under various sections of the Indian Copy Right Act-1957.
