Okay, more from the opening ceremony. Amy Jackson, the Brit babe who came to India looking for a future and the one who has consolidated herself as one of the top actresses down the South, is performing on a Hindi song.

  • 7:05 PM IST

Tendulkar honoured. Ganguly, Laxman and Sehwag as well. Dravid missing.

  • 7:02 PM IST

I do not know how I should describe it to you. But I will still try. Kohli comes in, he is standing on an open vehicle which drives him towards the center stage. The RCB captain is injured and has a stoic face as random people are dancing around him.
Here comes Warner, with a wide grin, in between dancing lions and the trophy which everyone will be eyeing this year. These vehicles, apparently, are similar to those golf carts but slightly long. They also have an ending supply of fireworks at the rear.

PS: Another break, and another sigh of relief as this means we are slowly but steadily inching towards cricket, which will begin precisely in 58 minutes from now.

  • 6:53 PM IST

Vinod Rai, Chairman of the Committee of Administrators (Shastri forgot the full name perhaps) felicitates Laxman. Ganguly is honoured as well. Amitabh Chaudhary felicitates Sehwag, and IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla gives a memento to Tendulkar.

  • 6:51 PM IST

Tendulkar: It’s about how you utilise the resources. It’s about how you progress and how you keep injuries away. As long as cricket is being played in the right spirit, that is what we all come to watch.

  • 6:50 PM IST

Tendulkar: We have completed 10 years, it’s a big achievement. When IPL was announced and when we played in 2008, I honestly did not think IPL will become so big. It’s a matter of pride that it’s in India that a tournament like IPL is there and it is being watched all over the world. Spectators have enjoyed it. Cricket has gone to those countries that had nothing to do with it.

  • 6:49 PM IST

Sehwag: I love it (IPL). I am the only guy who played in the same way across formats. If you are playing cricket you should entertain people. I am giving KXIP the freedom and the confidence to play aggressively.

  • 6:48 PM IST

Ganguly: It’s unbelievable. You just see people when you come to the ground. This looks as good as a Football World Cup final match. (For players) You get to learn a lot, your confidence goes to a different level. It cannot get better than this.

  • 6:47 PM IST

Laxman: IPL has provided entertainment to one and all. Players get a lot of confidence playing at the highest level. There is phenomenal exposure for the Indian cricketers.

  • 6:44 PM IST

Sehwag-Ganguly and Tendulkar-Laxman are being driven around the field in a vehicle that has endless supply of fireworks at the rear. An AR Rahman song is being played in a remixed version. And Rahul Dravid is missing. Who’s surprised?

  • 6:43 PM IST

Virender Sehwag is followed by Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and then Sachin Tendulkar. Shastri is roaring at the top of his voice, he is pumped up. If you are still in your slumber, wake up! It’s IPL time!

  • 6:43 PM IST

Shastri is calling on the 5 Indian Players to felicitate them for their contribution to Indian cricket. Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, the local-boy VVS Laxman, legend Sachin Tendulkar

  • 6:39 PM IST

Ravi Shahstrai has begun the opening ceremony with a gracious speech of how the tournament has progressed in the past 9 years. And he also has a special video of all the finals!

  • 6:34 PM IST

And the opening ceremony is underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

  • 6:24 PM IST

Remember, this is the first of the eight opening ceremonies that you’ll be witnessing this season. This move I don’t know but not needed to have 8 opening ceremonies. Meanwhile, Extra Innings T20 has begun on the TV with the usual face of Samir Kochhar. Sunny Gavaskar and Ajay Jadeja have been called in as the guest commentators.
