Sri Lanka named a 17-member squad Wednesday, including two rookie players, for the three Test matches in the upcoming England tour while retaining Angelo Mathews as captain. Batsmen Dasun Shanaka and Dhananjaya de Silva were included in squad for the Tests starting May 19 at Leeds. Batsman Kaushal Silva, who was briefly hospitalised after being hit on the head while fielding in Kandy during a practice match on Sunday, was also included. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said he was not seriously injured and was fully fit to play after resting for two days. The team leaves for England on May 4, SLC said. Sri Lanka are also due to play five One Day Internationals and One T20 match.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka on Wednesday brought back former skipper Sanath Jayasuriya to be the chief of a new panel of cricket selectors, following the country’s abortive defence of the Twenty20 World Cup. The four-member panel was brought in to replace a previous ad-hoc committee headed by former Test player Aravinda de Silva, which was set up just hours before the team was due to leave for India.
