Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) led by their President Thilanga Sumathipala and the board members congratulated Anurag Thakur on being elected the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Thakur was unanimously elected the new BCCI chief in a meeting held in Mumbai on Sunday. At 41, he is one of the youngest to assume the post. Thakur has taken charge of the BCCI after serving as the Secretary under Shashank Manohar and earlier to Jagmohan Dalmiya. The post was left vacant as his predecessor Manohar resigned to become the new ICC chief. Ajay Shirke was also appointed Secretary after Thakur’s elevation as the President of the board. BCCI on Sunday tweeted about Thakur being elected as the new man in power. In presence of all the crucial board members, Thakur was declared the President. With this, he becomes one of the youngest to become the President of the organisation since India’s independence in 1947. Manohar, who had taken over the post after Jagmohan Dalmia’s sudden demise, gave it up on May 10 and was elected unopposed as the new International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman.
Fatehsinghrao Prataprao Gaekwad was the youngest BCCI President, having been elected in 1963 at the age of 33, followed by Raymond Eustace Grant Govan at 37. At 42, Thakur is the sixth-youngest person to assume the role.
