Several cricket aficionados missed the presence of Virat Kohli during the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper was busy reading out wedding vows with his lady love Anushka Sharma at a Tuscan villa in Italy when India were succumbing to Sri Lanka bowlers in the first ODI. The other Sharma, on the other hand, ensured the deficit was covered on field. Rohit’s double-centuries, T20I century kept the fans entertained.
The Sri Lanka series ends at Mumbai, Rohit’s fortress. Following the third and final T20I, the Indian team will meet the newly wedded couple – Kohli and Anushka at St Regis on December 26. However, the Sri Lankan team will miss the bus here as well. Sri Lanka will leave for their country soon after the T20I series comes to an end.
A total of 24 Sri Lanka players have been selected to prepare for the Bangladesh series. Off these 24 players, 16 will head to Bangladesh for tri-series along with Zimbabwe. The remaining players will be preparing for the Test series against Bangladesh at home. Also this will be Chandika Hathurusingha’s first assignment as Sri Lanka coach.
A source close to the development told observebd.com, “This will be Hathurusingha’s first assignment for Sri Lanka. He could not be officially involved in the selection process as per country’s present law, which may be changed in due course, but was “made aware” of the composition of the team. There has been no immediate change in the present support staff. The same support staff now on India tour will be travelling to Bangladesh.”
Sri Lanka are also scheduled to play T20I series against Bangladesh post the two-match Test series.
