Afghanistan were handed their sixth blow of the innings wit 175 runs on board, as they were beginning to lose wickets in tandem against Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A fixture at the University Oval in Dunedin on Sunday. Afghanistan were cruising at 128 for two at one stage, with Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari well-settled at the crease and looking likely in guiding their side to a decent finish. Stanikzai’s departure after scoring his fifty turned out to be the turning point of the match. A couple of big hits by Mohammad Nabi restored some faith in the side, but some superb bowling by the Sri Lankans in the batting powerplay saw the Lankans tightening the noose around Afghanistan’s neck. Sri Lanka had earlier won the toss and put Afghanistan to bat. While Sri Lanka opted to replace Nuwan Kulasekara with all-rounder Thisara Perera, pacer Dawlat Zadran was brought in place of Aftab Alam.
