Sri Lanka batsmen Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews completed the 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket as Sri Lanka reached a score of 152 for the loss of four wickets at the end of 36 overs while chasing a target of 233 set by Afghanistan during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 fixture at the University Oval in Dunedin on Sunday. Jayawardene and Mathews were unbeaten on scores of 85 (100 balls) and 33 (70), helping Sri Lanka recover from early blows that saw Afghanistan boost the possibility of securing their maiden World Cup triumph. Afghanistan were earlier bowled out for 232 in 49.4 overs after being put to bat by Sri Lanka at the start of the match. Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari top-scored for the Afghans with scores of 54 and 38 respectively, while Lasith Malinga and Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews were the pick in the Sri Lankan bowling department with figures of three for 41. Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan opted for changes in their playing eleven, with all-rounder Thisara Perera replacing Nuwan Kulasekara for Sri Lanka. Afghanistan, on the other hand, opted to play Dawlat Zadran instead of Aftab Alam. Both sides aim to register their first win of the tournament, after Sri Lanka an Afghanistan lost their opening games to New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively.
