Glenn Maxwell registers second T20 International (T20I) individual score during the first match of the tow-match series against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. Maxwell fell short of teammate Aaron Finch’s record of 156, finishing with 145 not out off 65 deliveries. Maxwell reached his century off just 49 deliveries to help Australia reach 263 for 3 in the 20 overs, which happens to be the highest T20I team score, surpassing Sri Lanka’s 260 for 6 against Kenya in 2007. Maxwell, who was dropped for the One-Day International (ODI) series ahead of the T20I series answered his critics in the best possible manner after going through a dry spell. Australia had good partnerships throughout their innings. Maxwell, who opened the innings for the first time along with David Warner put on 57 off just 29 deliveries for the first wicket. Usman Khawaja then played second fiddle to Maxwell, who was going great guns to score a 22-ball 36.Khawaja and Maxwell put on 97 for the second wicket off 49 deliveries to give Australia a wonderful platform to score big. Head and Maxwell put on 107 off just 41 deliveries to help Australia register a mammoth score. It was Sri Lanka, who had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their bowlers took some beating with Sachuthra Senanayaka, Thisara Perera and Sachith Pathirana being the only wicket-takers for the hosts.
