Comeback man James Taylor scored his maiden half-century in the fourth One-Day International (ODI) between England and Sri Lanka at Colombo on Sunday. Coming into the side in place of Alastair Cook, Taylor started sedately but soon picked up his scoring rate to get to his fifty off 69 balls.

Earlier, Alex Hales was out for a first-ball duck. Dhammika Prasad took the wicket, as Hales’ attempted drive found the outside edge to Mahela Jayawardene at slip. Moeen Ali could only manage 19 runs, though he was batting well. Moeen was drawn out of the crease by Tillakaratne Dilshan and beaten. He edged behind to Kumar Sangakkara, who also had the stumps out in a flash.

England won the toss and elected to bat first. James Taylor got to play only his third ODI at the cost of the suspended Alastair Cook, who had to miss out due to a slow over rate in the last game, while James Tredwell continued to miss out. Jayawardene came back into the side after missing the last game due to personal reasons.
