Sri Lanka finally tasted victory on their 2016 tour of the British Isles with a 76-run win over Ireland at Malahide (near Dublin). Sri Lanka piled up 303 for 7 in 50 overs, thanks to 103 from Dinesh Chandimal and crucial inputs from Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka. Set to chase 293 for 47 overs as per the Duckworth-Lewis system, Ireland collapsed to 216 in 40.4 overs, despite spirited performances from William Porterfield (73) and Kevin O’Brien (64). Debutant Shanaka was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 9-0-43-5 to go with his 19-ball 42. In the process Shanaka became the 12th bowler and 3rd Sri Lankan to take a 5-wicket haul on ODI debut. The others were Shaul Karnain and Charitha Buddhika.

Note:
– Rabada and Edwards are the only ones to take 6 wickets in an innings on ODI debut.
– Shanaka is the only one to take 5 on debut against Ireland. He is the 2nd to do the same in Ireland, after Craig Young.
– Of the 12 instances, 3 have taken place in Mirpur.
– Mustafizur took 6 wickets in his second match.
– Shanaka’s 40 is the highest score by anyone who took 5 wickets on ODI debut. The previous record belonged to Karnain (28).
