Sri Lanka have won the two-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Ireland 1-0 after rain washed out the second ODI without a ball being bowled. After Sri Lanka won the first ODI comfortabl by 79 runs, the Irish would have liked to go hard in the second match, with a hope of leveling the series.

But their hopes have been killed by incessant rain. It had been raining since Wednesday night at Dunedin, but the heavens had relented for a brief period in the morning The outfield and the covers were still wet when scheduled time approached, but the officials were confident of getting game time. But as the day progressed, the rains came back with a vengeance and hardly stopped, thus ending all hopes.

The rains stopped at around 01:40 pm local time, but the officials believed areas around the wicket were too saturated to play on. Thus they decided to abandon the match.
