The Sri Lankan women‘s cricket team has been hard hit by retirements of two top players ahead of their tour to India this month.
The Lankan women’s team will tour India from January 6 to 29.
But just ahead of the tour, two senior players, Sandamali Dolewatta and Chamani Seneviratne, both members of last year’s World Cup team, have opted out of the series.
Both figured prominently in Sri Lanka’a giant killing performance when they recorded wins against both hosts India and top favourite England in last year’s World Cup.
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said that the two players had announced their their retirements.
Sources close to the two players, however, said that both quit after being disgruntled with internal machinations within the women’s cricket set up.
Seneviratne, a senior member of the team, had figured in the provisional squad of 23 members picked for the Indian tour.
Meanwhile, the selectors announced the final 14-member team for the tour.
