India Women were restricted to 130 for 6 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka Women were attacking right from the initial overs and got their first wicket well within 2nd over. India did make some changes in their opening batsmen coming with Indian skipper Mithali Raj and Vanitha coming to bat first. India Women slowly started losing wickets within the initial overs as Sugandika Kumari gave the right breakthrough for Sri Lanka. She picked three wickets for 13 runs. Sri Lanka’s Eshani Lokusuriyage also stood out for her bowling picking 2 wickets for 19. India Women won the toss and elected to bat first. India for a moment did get the perfect start but lost early wickets with Vanitha VR going out for 12 in 9 balls with three boundaries. India captain Mithali Raj also entered the crease along with Vanitha but was short lived as she was gone in just span of time within 4th over. Sugandika Kumari gave the perfect breakthrough Sri Lanka needed grabbing two wickets in initial overs. Smriti Mandhana came in and stayed on crease scoring 36 runs with 4 boundaries. After Mithali, Harmanpreet Kaur came in and together, Smriti and Harmanpreet built 50 runs partnership. India Women were wanting them to stay to get a competitive total on board.
That remained short lived as well and soon Smriti was out in 11th over, while Harmanpreet was out in 16th over. Veda Krishnamurthy came to bat after Smriti was out. Veda contributed 9 runs and soon she was out as well with Eshani Lokusuriyage grabbing her first wicket. Within the 17th over Eshani also got her second wicket of Ekta Bisht who has been called in for the Twenty20 squad. Soon India crumbled and Sri Lanka restricted well until the end.
