Former India U-19 opener Tanmay Srivastava struck an unbeaten 134 as hosts Uttar Pradesh reached 266 for four against Saurashtra in their second round Ranji Trophy Elite Group encounter.
The 21-year-old southpaw hit 20 boundaries in his unbeaten 268 ball knock as Saurashtra medium pacer Sandeep Maniar was the most successful bowler grabbing three for 53.
India’s ODI specialist Ravindra Jadeja went for 53 in his 20 wicketless overs.
Apart from Tanmay, none of the other UP batsmen could convert their starts as Parvinder Singh (47, 88 balls, 7×4, 1×6) and former captain Mohammed Kaif (33, 85 balls, 6×4) being dismissed after getting set. Skipper Suresh Raina had a disappointing outing as he was out for a duck after scoring a brilliant double century in the last match against Punjab.
Put into bat at the Cantonment ground, UP lost their big-bodied opener Ekalavya Dwivedi (12) cheaply as he edged one off Maniar’s bowling to Sagar Jogiyani behind stumps.
Tanmay was joined by experienced Kaif and the duo put on 84 runs for the second wicket before off-break bowler Kamlesh Makvana dismissed the veteran caught by Siddharth Trivedi.
Parvinder Singh who is good form played freely in the 87-run third wicket partnership before Maniar got his second wicket removing him caught by Sitangshu Kotak.
Maniar was on a hat-trick as he trapped Raina leg-before off the very next delivery but Arish Alam (18 batting) negotiated the next ball safely. He added 52 runs for the unfinished fifth wicket stand with Tanmay.
Brief Scores: Uttar Pradesh 266 for 4 (Tanmay Srivastava 134*, Parvinder Singh 47; Sandeep Maniar 3 for 53) vs Saurashtra.
