Australia‘s former captain, Steve Waugh at the ‘Salaam Cricket’ summit organised by news channel, ‘Aaj Tak’ said that he sees no reason that why spinners specialist in finger-bowling would be unable to perform on Australian tracks. He believes it’s all about the players mentality.

“Once again, it was more a mental thing. Hayden, for example, swept everything in 2001 and scored over 500 runs. Similarly, it is more of a thing of belief. There is no reason why finger- spinners cannot do well in Australia if they stick to a plan. The pitch is still 22 yards long! Also, you will often see that the side that fields better wins,” he said.

On the other hand, on being asked about India‘s good performance in the ICC tournaments off late and whether it should help India, he said, “It ideally should. India will have some momentum going their way. I will back Australia, but I think it will be a very open tournament.”
