Steven Smith and Chris Rogers cashed in on a flat deck at Lord’s during Day One of the second Ashes Test to post an unbeaten 259-run stand. In doing so they broke the record for the best Ashes second wicket partnership (for either side) at Lord’s, a record previously set by Sir Donald Bradman and Bill Woodfull in 1930 when they added 231 runs together. While there wasn’t much assistance available for the bowlers from the deck, they were guilty of not persevering enough. Moreover Ian Bell made a blunder of a chance that came to him at slip earlier in the day, while Smith had scored just 50 runs. Smith went to stumps with an unbeaten 129, while Rogers breached the 150-run mark and stands with an impressive overnight score of 158. SCORECARD: England vs Australia 2nd Test at Lord’s, Day 1
