Ajinkya Rahane, who has been in some rich form of late says that the Steven Smith, James Faulkner and Shane Watson were the right batsmen sent out to bat during the super over, in which Rajasthan Royals (RR) needed 16 to win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) after both sides could not be separated during the regular 40 overs of the match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015. “I think the three batsmen we sent were perfect for the job and all three had the experience of playing in a situation like this. Last year too we had played in a Super Over, so we had an idea. But credit should be given to Mitchell Johnson as well for the way he bowled in a difficult situation,” said Rahane, according to iplt20.com  PHOTOS: Rajasthan Royals vs Kings XI Punjab, IPL 2015: Match 18 at Ahmedabad

Rahane reflects back on the hard-fought game and says that it is important to give your 100 percent throughout the game. He says, “I think the kind of cricket we are playing the momentum is good and the team is in a good space. The way we are backing players and playing our cricket is good. In T20 an odd result doesn’t go your way; it is important that as we a team we play all the 40 overs with 100 percent commitment. We believe in commitment, result is the end thing; it is important to put in the full effort. Today we played good cricket overall, but maybe Kings XI played a little better and bowled better in the Super Over.” Shaun Marsh, David Miller star as Kings XI Punjab win thrilling Super Over against Rajasthan Royals

Rahane also says that he enjoys opening the innings with Watson as they compliment each  other well. “I think we complement each other very well and we are enjoying each other’s batting. When he is playing the big shots my role is to take a single and give him the strike. Similarly if I am scoring then he would give me the strike. We focus on building a partnership and we know that both of us are batting in a good rhythm,” said the stylish batsman.

Rahane says that this close loss has not affected the team’s confidence and they will take lessons from this. Winning and losing are part of the game but the way we are playing is more important. We had won five games on the trot and then lost this game which was very close. We have taken our lessons from this. It hasn’t lowered our confidence; we will look to dominate [in the coming matches],” Rahane said.
