Australian all-rounder Steve Smith will return home from the ongoing tour of England because of a strain.

The 24-year-old sustained a minor left quad strain in training on Wednesday and after a demanding Ashes 2013 series, Cricket Australia (CA) decided on Thursday that it is best for him to return.

Smith was part of the Australian One-Day International (ODI) squad. The CA said in a statement that there will be no replacement for Smith.

Smith scored his maiden century for Australia in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. Australia drew the match, but lost the series 3-0.

Smith also did not play against England in the first Twnety20 International on Thursday, which Australia won by 39 runs. Aaron Finch scored 156 runs from 63 balls.
