Sundar Raman has stepped down as the Chief operating Officer (COO) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has stepped down from his post. He is expected to end his association with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 5. Raman is said to have met BCCI President Shashank Manohar at Nagpur, who asked Raman to tender his resignation. Manohar had earlier criticised the board’s decision to retain Raman in the BCCI after the IPL spot-fixing and betting controversy 2013. “Raman should have gone immediately after the Mudgal Committee report found him prima facie guilty of wrongdoings. He ought to have stepped down immediately at that time. Now, to restore the faith of people in IPL and the game, Raman needs to go,” Raman was quoted by Indian Express. Raman is however still under investigation in connection with the IPL corruption scandal. Following the Supreme Court’s order to ban both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajashtan Royals (RR), the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council will decide on the bidding process on including two new teams in their meeting on November 8. Son-in-law of the then BCCI chief N Srinivasan, Gurunath Meiyappan, a former Team Principal of CSK, and Raj Kundra, co-owner of Jaipur IPL that runs RR, were suspended for life from any match conducted by BCCI. The punishments were handed down by a three-member panel headed by former Chief Justice of India R M Lodha.
