Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s 40-ball 54 helped Maharashtra hand Hyderabad their fourth defeat in a Group E Round 4 match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 trophy on Monday.

Chasing 125, Maharashtra cruised to victory in 18 overs with seven wickets remaining. Gaikwad led from the front and bludgeoned five boundaries and a huge six, while Naushad Shaikh (42 not out off 29) played second fiddle and later ensured his side home. Earlier, batting first, all the Maharashtra bowlers chipped in as Hyderabad were restricted to 124/6. Rohit Rayudu top scored with an unbeaten 47 off 34 which included a couple of sixes and a solitary boundary. Ambati Rayudu struggled to get going yet again with a 22-ball 15.

For Maharashtra, Vishal Gite pocketed two wickets in his four overs going for 30 runs, while Samad Fallah, Satyajeet Bachhav, Naushad and Azim Kazi all added one wicket each. (ALSO READ: Prithvi Shaw steers Mumbai home against Goa)

Maharashtra, who have now notched up their third win in four matches, occupy the fourth slot in the eight-team group, while Hyderabad are at the penultimate position.
