Vikas Hathwala’s unbeaten 61 carried Services to a four-wicket victory against Hyderabad in a Group E Round 6 match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 trophy at the Palam Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.
Chasing 136, Services lost both their openers Nakul Harpal Verma and Ravi Chauhan to Chama Milind and Mohammad Siraj respectively. The India pacer Siraj struck again thrice as Services were reduced to 71/4 in the 12th over.
Hathwala stood firm and threw the attack back at the opposition, his 61 off just 40 studded with six boundaries and two sixes as Services chased down the target with eight balls to spare. Siraj, who scalped four wickets, went for just 20 runs, but didn’t prove significant on the day.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, captain Rajat Paliwal (two for 9) and Mohit Kumar (two for 31) starred with the ball as Hyderabad could manage just 135/8 in 20 overs. Captain Akshath Reddy top scored with 34, while Ravi Teja was unbeaten on 31.
With their fourth win from six games, Services occupy the No. 3 position in the group, while Hyderabad have slipped to the sixth place after losing their fifth match.
Brief scores: Services 141/6 (Vikas Hathwala 61*; Mohammad Siraj 4/20) beat Hyderabad 135/8 (Akshath Reddy 34, Ravi Teja 31*; Rajat Paliwal 2/9, Mohit Kumar 2/31) by 4 wickets
