Wriddhiman Saha’s unbeaten 53 coupled with pacer Sayan Ghosh’s five wickets helped Bengal crush Gujarat by seven wickets in their last match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 Super League Group A match on Tuesday.

Bengal failed to seal the final berth and finished at second spot with 12 points from three wins, while Gujarat occupied the penultimate position with four points from a solitary win. (ALSO READ: Nikhil Naik, Samad Fallah power Maharashtra to final)

Chasing 122 which was not such a daunting target, Bengal lost their openers – Shreevats Goswami (22) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (0) – off successive deliveries to Jayveer Parmar in the fourth over. Captain Manoj Tiwary was cleaned up by Axar Patel for 18.

India’s experienced Test wicketkeeper-batsman Saha then took control of the innings and carted five boundaries and a six during his unbeaten 53 off 46 as Bengal chased down the target with 10 deliveries to spare. Earlier, after opting to bat, Gujarat crumbled a potent Bengal bowling attack. Parthiv Patel was the first to depart in the innings’ third delivery after he was run out by Tiwary for 6. As many as eight players registered single-digit scores with Axar emerging as the top scorer with 53. Ghosh, who ran through the middle order, returned with career-best figures of five for 15 in 3.3 overs.
